How many independent schools are there in Lund?

Lund has 12 independent compulsory schools out of 49 compulsory schools in total (37 municipal-operator schools). 8 of those independent schools have published a final-grade score — their average is 261.2 points, 33.6 points above the national average of 227.6 points.

A 'friskola' is a Swedish compulsory or upper-secondary school with a non-municipal operator — typically a private joint-stock company, foundation, or ideologically-driven association. Independent schools are funded by the pupil voucher (skolpeng) from the pupil's home municipality and may not charge tuition. They follow the same national curriculum and are inspected by the Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) on the same terms as municipal schools.

Are independent schools in Lund better than municipal ones?

Differences in results between independent and municipal schools are largely explained by pupil composition. The SALSA deviation (Skolverket's model adjusting for socio-economic background) gives a fairer comparison than raw final-grade scores. See /en/municipality/lund/independent-vs-municipal/ for an aggregated comparison.

How we ranked

The list contains independent compulsory schools in Lund (operator type = "enskild") that have published a Year 9 final-grade score. Schools are sorted on the Skolkoll score, the same 0–100 measure shown on school pages — it combines results, staffing, value-added, safety and resources. Where a dimension lacks school-specific data the neutral value 50 is used. The SALSA deviation is also shown separately as context. For compulsory schools, the SALSA residual is part of the value-added score dimension when available, but it is not a standalone quality grade. The Year 9 score, teacher certification and pupil counts are shown for every school so you can read the ranking in context.

Note: "Best" here is a data-driven comparison based on public statistics — not necessarily the best school for your child. Independent schools may have a different pupil composition than the municipal alternatives; use the SALSA deviation for an adjusted view.Read the full methodology →
