Best municipalities for families with school children
When families choose where to live, school is often the most important factor. But ‘school quality’ is multi-dimensional. The map combines four indicators into a family index (0–100):
- Merit score in year 9 — the municipal average, with the lowest municipality at 0 and the highest at 100
- Certified teachers — the municipal average, scaled the same way
- Pupil satisfaction in year 8 — share of satisfied pupils (Kolada)
- Number of schools to choose from — 20 or more schools gives 100; counted for municipalities with at least two schools
The indicators are weighted equally. A municipality missing data for an indicator gets the average of the others, and a municipality with fewer than two indicators gets no index. The map gives a quick overview, but if you live locally you should also visit the schools and read the Swedish Schools Inspectorate’s reports.
